So I'm a couple days late with sharing this, but I got a chance to go to my local game store and play in the prerelease draft for the new Commander Legends set! I was stoked and everyone had so much fun, 16 people showed up and everyone went in all completely different directions with the cards in the set, but here's my deck that I went with! First and foremost though, big thanks again to TapForTea with the sleeves and deck box!
So I had a chance to read up on a couple of the best draft archetypes, and originally was hurtling towards green/white tokens, but jumped on the opportunity to go Black/Green Sacrifice/Self-Mill. Kagha is a bit of an oddball commander, but ended up being a pretty decent choice for me.
Was pretty excited to see the Reflecting Pool that I could not pass up, and with the ability to pick 2 cards per pack in commander draft, how could I NOT? 'You Look Upon the Tarrasque' seemed like a weird throw in, but the second choice ended up being clutch paired with my commander getting deathtouch upon her attack trigger, cleared a whole board of 5 creatures with that!
This Slaad is a symbol of my pain and agony upon accepting 2nd place in my pod, had I remembered that he was in exile, ready to be cast at any point prior, I would have won... Not to mention that I had milled myself through my whole library just about at this point. It was almost a glorious comeback as I killed 2 other players and was left to either die, or draw an empty library.
The funny end to this story, is that we were supposed to do 2 games and declare winners based on that, but every game took a whole 3 HOURS!! So everyone got 2 prize packs for coming and playing in the draft! But wait, what's that? Did I pull anything neat in my prize packs you ask? uh.. YEA!
'WOOOOOOOO!' is what I would have said had I not been so tired from all the fun I had actually playing. All in all, awesome experience and I highly recommend trying a draft with this set!
This is great! Thanks for the post! Excellent pulls as well! Elminster and an etched Volo would definitely get a WOOOOOOOO! Your experience seems to be the general shared experience by everyone I've spoken with so far, great fun to draft and play but the games were very long and no place was able to keep within the time limits. IMO that is a good thing and means that the games were able to be fully enjoyed and played through as intended rather than fast with a few major win cons dominating. Super happy to hear the sleeves and deck box came in handy too, we try hard to make sure all of the surprise items are unique, interesting, but most of all useful!
